I live out in the middle of nowhere. Sometimes it's hard to
quickly find what you need out here.
These are some of the local businesses I deal with or have had
recommended to me, mixed with a checklist of things I'm still
looking for.
-
Shorty's Beast
plows my driveway for a reasonable rate in the winter. Shorty
also mows lawns in the summer.
-
Alexander Equipment
supplies parts for my old Ferris lawnmower and old Deutz-Allis
lawn tractor. Alexander is pretty far from Medina, but the local
Ferris place doesn't seem nearly as friendly and helpful as
Alexander Equipment. I need advice for some jobs.
- Gordon Fisk comes
recommended for small engines. I haven't tried him yet, though.
I had to call for hours: open until 5:30 weekdays, noon Saturday
[Oct., 2007]. $5.25 to sharpen an 18in chain, extra $1 for
rakers, if needed [Oct., 2007].
- I still sharpen my mower blades myself, although I should
probably find someone. I have to do it several times a year, so
it's possible to get pretty good at it myself, but it takes a
while with a regular bench grinder.
- There was a sawmill in Middleport, I think, that sold chunk/slab
wood for $20/pickupload. I didn't need any firewood this year so
I ended up not trying them out, though [Oct., 2007].
